A WORD FROM THE KEEPER

My name is Tomas.

I am eighty-eight. For fifty-two years I kept the light at Cabo Escuro, on the coast of Portugal.

I still live in the cottage beside it. The logbook is here with me. One line a day. Some days the ink ran. You can still read most of it.

These are the stories behind those lines.

Tomas.
